TOGA BOARD MEETING, COOKOUT SEPTEMBER 13 AT MILLERS - The TOGA board of directors meeting will be held Friday, September 13 at the home of Sharon and Deloy Miller, followed by a steak feast provided by Balon Valves. Everyone in the oil business, members and non-members, are welcome. (To make certain Balon doesn't run out of steaks, call Teresa at Miller Petroleum, Inc. 423-663-9457 to let us know you are coming.) The board meeting is tentatively scheduled for 5:00 p.m. and the Steak Feast is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
GIGANTIC PRYOR OIL CO. WELL PROVES THERE IS BIG OIL IN TN - Pryor Oil Co, Cookeville, drilled in a Sunnybrook oil well in Morgan County that blew out and caught fire. Before it caught fire it was flowing at a rate of between 200 to 500 barrels an hour, or up to 12,500 barrels a day at flowing pressures estimated at 1700 psi. Boots & Coots, the international firefighting team came in and put the well fire out. At press time, Pryor was in the process of getting the well into production. While crews were trying to contain the well, it put an estimated 1,000 gallons of oil in Clear Creek. Thanks to the quick work of Pryor Oil Co. personnel, Highland Drilling crews and volunteers, some 95% of the spilled oil was contained by Saturday night. Nevertheless, the EPA saw fit to take over the project on Sunday. "While there was an oil spill, the fast work of Pryor Oil, Highland Drilling and volunteers kept damage to a minimum. No one was seriously injured and this proves beyond a shadow of a doubt, there really is big oil in Tennessee," said Bill Goodwin, TOGA President, who was on sight helping contain the well when it caught fire.
Highland Drilling's rig, compressor and vehicles were destroyed. Harold Stone lost his dozer to the fire and received burns on his arm when he jumped off the burning dozer. Leasing around the well site has picked up considerably.
BIG WELL BRINGS NEW RULES AND REGS - As expected regulators were quick to call for more regulations to protect the environment. The Tennessee Oil & Gas Board sent a letter to all operators shortly after the well fire containing a page of new regulations that are to go into effect in 10 days on all Fentress, Scott and Morgan County wells as well as wells around Dale Hollow Lake. The regs range from requiring gravel on all well roads to the nearest paved road to blowout preventers to a comprehensive Health & Safety Plan for each well. The TOGA office has been in contact with the Oil & Gas Board, suggesting some regs aimed specifically at controlling big wells, keeping oil out of the park and scheduling an Oil & Gas Board Rule Making hearing to deal with future regulations.
PROSPECT EXPO, PERFECT TIMING - Oilmen from around the country are scrambling for leases around Pryor Oil's big Morgan County well. If you have a prospect in the area, the perfect place to present it to possible investors or partners is the Association of American Petroleum Gologists Prospect Expo in August 27-29 in Houston. Thanks to Somerset Refinery, TOGA will be telling deal makers around the nation that "There Really Is Big Oil & Gas In Tennessee" at that show. Any TOGA member is welcome to present their deals, either in writing or in person in the TOGA booth. Get you deals ready for Houston. Call the TOGA office for more information at 615-263-1291.
LIST YOUR DEALS, NO COMMISSION - In addition to the APEX prospect expo, you can list your deals in leases through the Petroleum Listing Service (PLS) again, thanks to the financial support of Somerset Refinery. PLS is a nation-wide membership service that matches properties, leases or drilling deals with other companies or investors, and takes no commission. Membership in PLS is through TMD Energy. To get your deal listed, call Bill Goodwin, Chuck Murchison or Juli Golemi at 615-259-2677.
MORE OILFIELD FOLKS PASS AWAY - Kenny Brown, one of the best known pumpers in the business died July 29th after a courageous but losing battle with cancer July 29th. Haley Long, the granddaughter of Bill Cooper, Jr. and niece of Bill Cooper III and state inspector Jeff Laxton, also passed away . On July 30th, Sharon Miller, wife of Deloy Miller, Miller Petroleum, Inc., lost her sister, Portica Bowlin to cancer. We also learned that Jason Tallent has passed away.
LANDMAN AVAILABLE - There is a Knoxville-based landman looking for part time work. He is John Anderson, who some of you met when he attended the annual meeting in Knoxville. For more information, give us a call at the TOGA office 615-263-1291.
